With increasing environment and health concerns over plastic usage from governments and consumers, Swedish furniture retailer Ikea said it is in the process of identifying all in-scope plastic items and is developing a roadmap for replacing them with more sustainable options.Ikea India deputy country head Patrik Antoni said: “We are committed to remove all single-use plastic products by 2020. As a retailer, we also use plastics in packaging…10% of our plastic use falls in this category. We are aware that plastic is disrupting the environment in a very serious way.”Antoni said Ikea has removed all single use items from its customer and co-worker restaurants. The furniture retailer, which is set to open its first store in India, said it is at an initial stage of working with partners for converting industrial scrap and waste into recycle plastic material.Ikea plans to sell affordable furniture, plastic storage sets and mattresses among other products, besides a restaurant outlet.
